Pirates Host Loyola in Last Home Date Before Holidays

HAMPTON, Va. (Dec. 2, 2025) … Coach Ivan Thomas's team faces Loyola (Md.) in a non-conference contest before taking time off to prepare for the fall semester's final exams.

Proving the importance of being a student-athlete, nine Pirate basketball players earned Dean's List recognition in the spring 2025 semester.

Members of the Pirate basketball team posted a 3.02 grade point average in the spring semester.

The Pirates were a success on the court, as well. The 2024-25 edition of the Pirates recorded a 17-16 record including a win in the opening round of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament.

The team recorded their first winning record after five straight losing records.

A victory over Loyola (Md.) would be the team's third straight victory and would square Hampton's record at 5-5 on the season

The Game
Hampton recorded its 250th victory at the Convocation Center on Dec. 1 when the Pirates whipped the Apprentice School 94-58.

The Pirates have a 250-139 (.643) record since the venue opened in 1993. Coach Ivan Thomas's team recorded a 10-4 record at the facility in 2024-25 and are 2-0 this season.

Hampton has won its last six straight games at the Convocation Center beginning with a 63-58 triumph over Drexel on Feb. 13, 2025.

After losing the first two games in the series with Loyola (Md.), in 2018 and 2021, the Pirates turned the tables last year with a 76-68 win on Dec.21 on the road. Etienne Strothers (14) and Xzavier Long (10) led the Hampton scoring parade.
