Hampton, Va. (March 28. 2025) … The Hampton Pirates women's tennis team return to action on Sunday as they visit the East Carolina Pirates for a noon match at the River Birch Tennis Complex.
Hampton went 2-2 on its Spring Break trip to Florida recording wins over St. Thomas Aquinas (4-3) and Quinnipiac (4-3) and they are currently 5-4 on the season.
ABOUT THE PIRATES FROM VIRGINIA
Diana Staroudbtseva leads Hampton in singles this season with a 7-1 record at No. 1. She opened the year winning her first six matches before splitting her last two in Florida.
Meiri Okuwaki and
Serena Bryan are right behind Starodubtseva with 6-1 records. Both Okuwaki and Bryan are currently on six-match winning streaks.
In doubles, the Pirates are topped by Okuwaki and
Masa Mitic with a 6-2 mark splitting time between No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Bryan and Starodubtseva are just off their pace as they are 5-3 at No. 1.
ABOUT THE PIRATES FROM CAROLINA
East Carolina enters the weekend with a 4-9 record and have a match with Elon on Saturday before hosting the Pirates. They have wins over N.C. Central (4-3), Campbell (6-1), Mercer (5-2) and Norfolk State (5-2) this spring.
In the fall, Ines Bachir had a 4-4 record to lead the Pirates in singles, while the duo of Bachir and Xenia Jeromin were 6-1.
