HAMPTON, Va. (April 17, 2025) … The Hampton University women's tennis team will conclude its regular season on Friday morning with an 11 a.m. match against UNC Wilmington at Neilson-Screen Stadium.
Hampton (9-8, 1-2) comes in after a tough 4-3 win over Morgan State on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day. After dropping the doubles point, Hampton rebounded with wins at the top four spots to clinch the victory.
Meiri Okuwaki and
Diana Starodubtseva each won 6-3, 6-3 at lines two and one, respectively, while
Serena Bryan scored a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Hannah Smith at line three.
Melis Sakiroglu clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 win at line four.
Starodubtseva leads the Pirates in singles wins this spring with a 13-3 record at line one. Okuwaki is next at 12-3 playing line two and
Serena Bryan is 10-4 splitting time between line three and line four. In doubles, Starodubtseva and Bryan are 10-5 at line one, while Okuwaki and
Masa Mitic are 10-5 mainly at line two.
UNCW (8-6, 5-2) has won six of its last seven matches with the last two being 7-0 blankings of Monmouth and Longwood. Alex Borich, Lucia Gomez and Elif Albayrak share the team lead this spring in singles wins with nine, while Alicia Eberwein and Stela Joksimovic lead in doubles wins also with nine apiece.
