HAMPTON, Va. (April 23, 2025) … Hampton University's annual Spring Football Game is set for Saturday, April 26 at Armstrong Stadium. The event is free and open to the public.
Second-year coach
Trenton Boykin will lead his team through workouts, seven-on-seven drills, and game situations as spring practice comes to a close.
"I'm really pleased with the dedication and effort by our players this spring," said Boykin. "We have four new coaches on the staff and a they have bonded with our players and staff. Our transfers have contributed and our younger guys have improved since last season."
In 2024, the Pirates excelled on both sides of the ball. The offense increased its scoring output from 23.3 points per game to 29.6, an increase of 6.3. The Pirate offense ranked second in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) in rushing, averaging 195.8 yards per game with 32 touchdowns. Defensively, Hampton led the CAA in total defense yielding 317.7 yards per game, placing them 22nd nationally in the FCS. The Pirate pass defense was tops in the CAA with just 167.8 yards per game and the team had 19 takeaways with 32 sacks.
Hampton opens the 2025 season on the road at Jackson State on Aug. 30. The first home game is on Sept. 6 when the Pirates host Elizabeth City State.
The game is the highlight of Hampton's Spring Weekend. The football tailgate party kicks off at 10:00 a.m. followed by the game at 11:00 a.m. Following the conclusion of the game, the Pirate softball team squares off against longtime rival North Carolina A&T at 1:00 at the Hampton Softball Stadium which is the final home series of the season. Admission is free.
