Hampton and A&T battle for the 50th time Saturday

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 11, 2025) ... Hampton begins CAA football action on Saturday night in Greensboro, North Carolina against N.C. A&T at 7 p.m.

Notes
  • Hampton's sixth oldest rival, North Carolina A&T, and the Pirates will square off for the 50th time on Sept. 13. Hampton has dominated the series in recent years winning seven of the last 10 matchups by an average margin of 39.6-18.5. It will mark the CAA opener for both teams and the home opener for the Aggies.
  • For the second straight year, Hampton will travel to Greensboro, N.C. Last year, the Pirates spoiled the Aggies Homecoming with a 59-17 win after trailing 14-0 in the first period.
  • The football history of the two schools is irrevocably intertwined. The two have shared membership in four leagues. They were members of the Division II CIAA before A&T moved to the Division I MEAC. Hampton later joined the league. The two moved to the Big South together and then on to the CAA.
  • For the Pirates, the contest is the first of three consecutive games on the road. Following the game at A&T, Hampton travels to Washington, D.C. to take on Howard on Sept. 20 and at Elon in North Carolina on Sept. 27.
  • Hampton returns home to host longtime rival Norfolk State in the Battle of the Real HU on Oct. 4 at Armstrong Stadium. The Pirates whipped the Spartans 37-7 a year ago in Norfolk.

The Game
  • Hampton (1-1) opens CAA play when the Pirates travel to Greensboro, N.C. to play longtime foe North Carolina A&T (0-2). It will mark the 50th meeting between the two teams. The game pits the CAA's two HBCU entries head-to-head with the Aggies hosting the game for the second straight season.
  • The Pirates are coming off a 27-20 come-from-behind triumph over Elizabeth City State. In that game, graduate Ja'Quan Snipes rushed for a personal-best 174 yards with two scores.
  • His 37-yard TD run with :39 left broke a tie and provided Hampton's margin of victory. Snipes is the CAA's third-leading rusher averaging 106.5 yards per game.
  • Redshirt sophomore Brett Starling made his mark with his first career field goals of 36 and 30 yards with three extra-points in the win over the Vikings. Defensive back MJ Moultrie II recorded 10 tackles with linebacker Michael Matthews Canty totaling nine stops with a sack and 1.5 tackles-for-loss in Hampton's win over the Vikings.
  • The game will pit Hampton's league leading rushing attack (253.5 ypg) against A&T's defense that yields 242.5 ypg, last in the CAA.
  • On defense, Hampton is led by Matthews-Canty, who is 11th in the conference in tackles with 16 in the season's first two contests. Moultrie had 14 total stops and teammate Korede Sogbesan has 10 tackles.
  • For the Aggies, Joshua Iseah has 12 total tackles and Kamari Blankumsee has 11 to lead the way. Marquis Hand has registered two sacks and forced a fumble.
