WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 22, 2026) … Jayda Sutton took a well-placed feed from
Nylah Jennings with 5:30 left in regulation to level the match as Hampton and Howard played to a 1-1 draw in the HBCU Women's Soccer Invitational at Audi Field.
Hampton (0-2-1) outplayed Howard (0-0-2) in the opening half holding a 9-5 advantage in shots. The Pirates pushed the pace early and held the ball in the attacking end for large portions of the opening 45 minutes.
The Bison got most of their shots in one possession that put them ahead 1-0 at 39:12. Imani Kissi uncorked a blast from 30-yards out that hit the crossbar and landed at the feet of Alauna Rutland whose shot was deflected by Hampton goalie
Jackie Jenkins. That unfortunately landed at the feet of Dominique Desert who found the back of the net for the 1-0 Howard lead.
In the second half, Hampton swarmed around and peppered Howard goalie Trinity Knox, who made eight saves in the game. The Pirates had a couple chances go wide but found the back of the net with 5:30 left in regulation.
Jennings took control and forced down the right side and slid a perfect pass to the feet of Sutton who slotted it past a diving Knox to even the contest at 1-1.
Each team had a couple chances down the final stretch, but the "Battle of the Real HU" for 2026 ended in a draw. On the game, Hampton held a 19-8 advantage in shots, 9-4 in shots on goal and 4-2 in corner kicks.
Hampton continues its road swing heading to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate on August 30 at 7 p.m.
