Hampton University senior guard Mike Tuitt was named Athlete of the Week following his outstanding performance on the basketball court against Howard.

Tuitt (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 20 points off the bench – including the game-winning 3-point play with seven seconds left – and made some key free throws in to give the Pirates (6-9, 2-1 MEAC) a 57-55 victory over Howard on Saturday.  He connected on six of 11 shots and was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.

He also added five rebounds, five assists and two steals in 32 minutes of play.

Tuitt was named MEAC Player of the Week, becoming the first Pirate this season to earn a weekly award from the conference.
