HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University sophomores
Darrion Pellum and
Bernadette Fortune were named HU Athletes of the Week on Wednesday, due to their performances on the basketball court heading into the week.
Pellum (Hampton, Va.) scored 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting on Feb. 15 against North Carolina A&T, before adding 16 points on Saturday at Bethune-Cookman in the first of two straight wins for the Pirates. Pellum shot 7-for-10 against the Wildcats and has been nominated for the HSRN Division I Men's Player of the Week honor.
Pellum also had nine points on 4-for-9 shooting in Monday's win at Florida A&M.
Fortune (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored a career-high 30 points and recorded a career-high 11 assists on Feb. 15 as the Lady Pirates handed North Carolina A&T its first MEAC loss of the season. Fortune went 11-for-14 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line as Hampton won its eighth straight game, before adding eight points on 3-for-7 shooting on Saturday at Bethune-Cookman.
Fortune went 6-for-11 in Monday's win at Florida A&M, scoring a game-high 17 points.
