HAMPTON, Va. -- The Hampton University men's tennis team (7-4) defeated the Bears of Shaw University and the Hawks of Maryland-Eastern Shore this past week at home.
On Tuesday, the Hampton men's tennis team beat Shaw 5-2.
In singles play, Hampton's no.1 sophomore
Nelio Mattos (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil) defeated Fabio Falcato in straight sets, 6-0, 3-0, while No. 2
Kenneth Green (Philadelphia, Pa.) lost to Shaw's Milos Stankovic 0-6, 4-6. The Pirates' no. 3 junior
Gellert Varga (Becej, Serbia) won a tough match against Kalada Kienka 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 for his seventh win of the season.

Edson Alves (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil) lost in straight sets to Shaw's Medhi Ben-Cheikh 6-2, 6-1, while freshman
Alvin Fludd (Washington, D.C.) defeated Antoine Jacobs 6-1, 6-0 and the Pirates' Isaiah Stewart blanked Martin Faison in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).
In doubles play, Mattos and Varga defeated Falcato and Ben-Cheikh 8-2, but Shaw came back and won the second match, with Kienka and Stankovic beating Green and Stewart 8-3.
Fludd and Alves ended the day with an 8-0 victory over Jacobs and Faison.
On Saturday afternoon, the Pirates scorched the Hawks of Maryland-Eastern Shore 7-0.
In singles play, Mattos won his third match in a row, defeating Rashad James 6-1, 6-1, while Green was victorious against Emmash Sudusinghe 6-2, 6-2 and Varga won his sixth match in a row, beating UMES' Dorian Thomas 6-0, 6-0.
Alves defeated the Hawks' Marquet Robinson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 for his first victory in five matches. Fludd won his third match in a row, beating Osvaldo Rivera 6-0, 6-0.
Stewart collected a victory over the Hawks' Jon Toms 6-1, 6-0 for his fourth victory in a row.
In doubles play, Mattos and Varga defeated UMES' Thomas and Sudusinghe 8-1, while Green and Stewart beat Robinson and Toms 8-0.
Fludd and Alves ended the day with an 8-1 victory over Thomas and Rivera.
The Pirates return to action on Sunday, when they will travel to Dover, Del. to compete against the Hornets of Delaware State University.
