DOVER, Del. -- The Hampton University men's tennis team defeated the Hornets of Delaware State at the Colonial Tennis Court on Saturday.
The Pirates beat the Hornets 5-1. They are currently 8-5 and 3-0 in MEAC play.

Nelio Mattos (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil) defeated Delaware State's Christopher Kano 6-3, 6-0, and
Kenneth Green (Philadelphia, Pa.) came up short against Brian Gelis 0-6, 6-4, 10-0.
Gellert Varga (Becej, Serbia) won his eighth match in a row beating Milos Velickovic 6-2, 6-0, while
Edson Alves (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil) defeated Roman Pitatelev in a close match 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
Pirates freshman
Alvin Fludd (Washington, D.C.) won his eighth game this season by beating Andrew Fillman in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Junior
Marcelo Reda (Tremembe, Brazil) received a victory by default.
The Hampton University women's tennis defeated the Lady Hornets 4-2. The Lady Pirates are 7-7 overall and 3-0 in MEAC play.

Jovanna Sangria (Long Beach, Calif.) beat Marina Sicic in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. She leads the team in wins with 11.
Preseason MEAC Player of the Year
Na-Hyun Baek (Seoul, Korea) defeated Anna Kovtun 6-0, 6-0. She won her last seven matches.
Maria Ycaza (Guayaquil, Ecuador) lost to Polina Razborova 6-2 6-1, snapping her three-match winning streak. The Lady Hornets followed with another victory when Christina Pires defeated
Barenese Myers (Beverly Hills, Calif.) in a close match 6-2, 6-7, 10-7.
Junior
Janelle Small (Pickering, Ontario) blanked Sonja Banicevic 6-0, 6-0, while
Tabita Daolio (Centro Campinas, Brazil) received a win by default.
