GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams won a combined six event titles on Saturday at the Murray Neely Invitational, held at Irwin Belk Track.
The Pirates won five event titles, while the Lady Pirates took home one.
Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) won the lone event for the Lady Pirates, taking the high jump competition with a height of 1.64 meters.
David Kimani (Kenya) won two events for the Pirates, taking the 1,500-meter run with a 4:06.99 and the 5,000-meter run after running a 15:44.78. Freshman Michael Davenport (Pleasantville, N.J.) ran a 10:09.41 to take the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) jumped 1.95 meters to take the high jump competition, while Lamar Veale (Chesapeake, Va.) threw the javelin 49.90 meters to win that event.
Freshman Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) ran a 1:53.63 to finish second in the 800-meter run. Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) ran a 10.58 in the 100-meter dash to come in third, and Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a 21.38 to finish third in the 200-meter dash.
Benita Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) ran a 2:19.92 in the 800-meter run to finish third for the Lady Pirates. Jocelyn Watkins (Ellenwood, Ga.) finished fourth in the shot put (12.37 meters) and the javelin throw (27.34 meters), while Margaret Harris (South Bend, Ind.) jumped 5.30 meters in the long jump to finish fourth.
The Pirates will return to action on April 21-24, when they head to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Penn Relays, while the Lady Pirates will return to Greensboro, N.C. for the International Freedom & Friendship Games.
