Schedule of Events

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams will head to Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Lady Pirates will look to defend their championship — which would be their fifth straight outdoor title — while the Pirates will look to improve upon their second-place finish from a year ago. Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) gave the Pirates their lone individual title, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.71.

Francena McCorory (Hampton, Va.) won the 200-meter dash in 23.23 and the 400-meter dash in 51.75 for the Lady Pirates, while Krystle Medlin took the MEAC title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:29.75 and the 5,000-meter run in 18:15.21.

Both the Pirates and Lady Pirates finished second in the 2010 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this past February; McCorory was named the meet's Most Outstanding Runner on the women's side, while junior Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) was named the meet's Most Outstanding Field Performer on the men's side.

Norfolk State swept the men's and women's indoor MEAC titles.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates last competed in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. on April 22-24, putting on a strong showing.

The Pirates took the IC4A 4x100-meter relay — with Justin Battle, Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.), Devon Brown (Laurel, Md.) and Reggie Dixon running a 40.43 — before Dixon, Anderson, Battle and Brown teamed up to take the gold in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:23.75.

Predist Walker (Suffolk, Va.) ran a season- and MEAC-best 14.20 in the heats of the 110-meter hurdles to come in 12th; he was also on the 110-meter shuttle hurdles team that finished 12th with a 1:03.83, and he led the spring medley squad that ran a 3:31.26 to come in 32nd.

Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) and Petrice Richards (Manchester, Jamaica) turned in the best individual performances for the Lady Pirates; Vassell jumped a season-best 5.96 meters to finish seventh in the long jump college competition, while Richards finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.82.

Vassell and Richards also joined McCorory and Leah Richmond (Long Beach, Calif.) to finish sixth in the ECAC 4x200-meter relay with a 1:34.29. McCorory, Richards and Vassell teamed up with Margaret Harris (South Bend, Ind.) to finish eighth in the ECAC 4x100-meter relay after running a 48.19.

Kenya Jones (Chesapeake, Va.), Janean Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Shaquanda Gainey (Camden, N.J.) and Jahlisa Smith (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a school-record 8:59.45 in the 4x800-meter relay college event to finish fourth.

Smith, Morris and Jones also teamed up with Benita Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) to finish 11th in the distance medley relay college event with a school-record time of 11:47.34.

The Pirate's 4x100-meter relay team holds the MEAC's best time this season, a 40.14 the squad ran at the Florida Relays. Lamar Veale (Chesapeake, Va.) also holds the conference-best mark in the decathlon, scoring 5,756 points at the Alabama Relays.

Richards ran an 11.59 in the 100-meter dash at the International Friendship & Freedom Games to lead the MEAC, while McCorory leads the conference in the 200-meter dash thanks to the school-record 22.92 she ran at the Florida Relays. Smith holds the MEAC standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running an 11:33.49 at the Shamrock Invitational, and the 4x400-meter relay team ran a 3:39.97 at the UCF Invitational to pace the MEAC.
