HAMPTON, Va. – Junior linebacker Lyndell Gibson and senior guard Choicetta McMillian were named Hampton University Athletes of the Week on Monday, due to their respective performances over the past weekend.

Gibson (Virginia Beach, Va.) was key in the football team's 42-6 win over Delaware State on Saturday at Armstrong Stadium. The Virginia Tech transfer had 13 tackles in the game, including three for a loss of eight yards, while also breaking up two passes and intercepting two others.

Gibson returned those interceptions for a total of 66 yards – including a 43-yard touchdown return l.ate in the fourth quarter.

McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) led the women's basketball team to a season-opening 60-37 over Pitt in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday, scoring a game-high 22 points on the strength of a 5-for-15 effort from behind the arc.

McMillian also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
