DOVER, Del. – The Hampton University bowling team won four matches this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the 2011 Capital Classic hosted by Delaware State.
The Lady Pirates went 4-8 on the weekend, starting with a 2-3 mark in Friday's Baker total pinfall action. Hampton opened with a 786-766 win over Stephen F. Austin, before falling 599-766 to Fairleigh Dickinson and 646-666 to St. Francis (N.Y.).
After beating St. Peter's (N.J.) 688-666, the Lady Pirates fell 631-728 to Adelphi.
The Lady Pirates went 1-3 in Saturday's 5-person team match following 789 pins in the opening-round bye. Hampton fell 836-961 to New Jersey City and 753-1,080 to Vanderbilt, before beating Howard 852-806 and falling 877-997 to Norfolk State.
Sophomore
Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.) recorded a team-high 984 total pins, averaging 196.8 per match. She bowled a team-best 232 against Norfolk State, as well as a 205 against New Jersey City.
Freshman
Nicole Kettler (Cincinnati, Ohio) averaged 16.28 pins per match, totaling 814 pins on Saturday. She bowled a 178 against Norfolk State, to go along with a 165 against New Jersey City and a 163 against Howard.
The Lady Pirates went 1-2 in Sunday's Baker match play action. After falling 2-4 to Morgan State, Hampton beat North Carolina A&T 4-0 and lost 2-4 to St. Francis (N.Y.).
The Lady Pirates (42-46, 11-9 MEAC) will return to action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when they head to Baltimore, Md. to compete in the Morgan State Invitational.
