BOWLING HAS STRONG WEEKEND AT MORGAN STATE

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Hampton University bowling team had a strong showing at the Morgan State Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, recording a winning record over the three-day event.

The Lady Pirates went 8-4 on the weekend.

Hampton opened play on Friday in Baker total pinfall action, going 3-2. After opening with a 618-780 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore, the Lady Pirates beat North Carolina A&T 634-580 and Delaware State 714-699.

The Lady Pirates then closed Friday's action with a 597-720 loss to North Carolina Central and a 718-662 win over Morgan State.

Hampton went 4-1 in Saturday's 5-person team match play, beating Florida A&M 935-885, Cheyney 887-698 and Monmouth 869-790, before falling 839-937 to Sacred Heart and beating Bethune-Cookman 921-819.

Sophomore Rebecca Glazier (Newport News, Va.), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, recorded a team-high 1,040 pins on Saturday, averaging 208 pins per match. She bowled a team-best 235 against Sacred Heart, while also bowling a 215 against Bethune-Cookman and a 212 against Florida A&M.

Freshman Nicole Kettler (Cincinnati, Ohio) totaled 921 pins, averaging 184.2 per match. Her high of 202 came against Cheyney.

Senior Jazzminn Richey-Obey (Lorain, Ohio) rolled a 212 against Cheyney and a 210 against Florida A&M.

The Lady Pirates went 1-1 in Sunday's Baker match play action, falling 3-4 to Howard before beating Elmhurst 4-3.

The Lady Pirates (50-50, 11-9 MEAC) will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to Elmwood Park, N.J. to compete in the ECAC Championships.
