LADY PIRATES LOOK FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT AGAINST NCCU

Game Notes

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University women's basketball team will look for its fifth straight win on Monday, when the Lady Pirates take on North Carolina Central in a non-conference game at the HU Convocation Center at 6 p.m.

The Lady Pirates (16-6), in their second season under head coach David Six, picked up their third straight win on Saturday with a 77-57 win over South Carolina State at the HU Convocation Center. Senior forward Quanneisha Perry (Decatur, Ga.) led the Lady Pirates with 25 points and 16 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season, while junior guard Choicetta McMillian (Fairfield, Texas) added a career-high 22 points behind six 3-pointers and sophomore forward Keiara Avant (Chesapeake, Va.) added a career-high 11 points.

North Carolina Central (2-20) has lost 12 straight games following a 66-33 loss at Howard on Saturday. Senior guard Shanise Blanks led the Lady Eagles with 12 points off the bench, the only NCCU player in double figures.

Hampton is 14-2 all-time against North Carolina Central, having won the last seven meetings in the series. The two teams have not met since Feb. 20, 1995, when the Lady Pirates won 51-31 on a neutral court. The first meeting the series was on Jan. 12, 1983, when the Lady Pirates – then a Division II program – beat the Lady Eagles 102-76 in Holland Hall. NCCU last beat Hampton on Nov. 30, 1989, beating the Lady Pirates 73-50 in Durham, N.C. Hampton is 7-0 all-time against NCCU at home.

The Lady Pirates have gone nine straight games without giving up 60 points, including back-to-back games in which they've given up a season-low 29 points against Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore. Hampton is giving up just 44.4 points per game in that span, compiling an 8-1 record.

The Lady Eagles went 11-18 last season and did not play in a conference as they continue their transition from Division II to Division I. NCCU returns two starters and seven letterwinners from last season's squad, and though the team has joined the MEAC, the Lady Eagles are not eligible for the conference championship this season.

Senior forward Jori Nwachukwu leads the Lady Eagles in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game this season, while also pulling down a team-high 8.9 rebounds per contest. Sophomore guard Chasidy Williams is averaging 11.5 points per game.

NCCU is scoring just 49.0 points per game, while giving up 68.5 points a night.

After beating South Carolina State 77-57 on Saturday, the Lady Pirates are 8-2 at the HU Convocation Center so far this season. The Lady Pirates were 10-3 at the HU Convocation Center last season, winning their last seven home contests. Hampton went 7-1 at home in MEAC games last season, and Six is 18-5 in his career as a head coach at home.
