BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Nine members of the Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams competed in the NCAA East Regional this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Haugh Track & Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University.
Freshman
Alaine Tate (Queens, N.Y.) and senior
Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) each turned in the Lady Pirates' best individual finishes of the weekend; Tate ran a 2:10.23 to come in fourth in her preliminary heat of the 800-meter run, while Vassell ran a 13.91 in her preliminary heat of the 100-meter hurdles to come in fourth.
Tate joined freshman
Emmy Fraenk (Hampton, Va.), freshman
Cydney Robinson (Portsmouth, Va.) and junior
Benita Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) on the 4x400-meter relay team, which ran a season-best 3:38.38 to come in fifth in their preliminary heat.
Freshman
Breana Norman (Virginia Beach, Va.) jumped 1.65 meters in the high jump, finishing tied for 20th in her flight.
On the men's side, junior
Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) ran a 10.61 to finish fifth in his preliminary heat of the 100-meter dash, while senior
Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) came in seventh in his preliminary heat of the 200-meter dash with a 21.74.
Senior
Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) came in tied for 15th in his flight on the high jump after reaching a height of 2.06 meters.
No one from Hampton qualified for the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which will be held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
