Results: Captain's Invitational | Terrapin Invitational
LANDOVER, Md. – The Hampton University women's track & field team came in second overall at the Terrapin Indoor Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland on Saturday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
The Lady Pirates finished with 120.5 points, while host Maryland took the team title with 144 points.
Hampton took home four event titles in the process, with sophomore
Emmy Fraenk (Hampton, Va.) taking the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.37, while sophomore
Cydney Robinson (Portsmouth, Va.) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.75.
Sophomore
Alaine Tate (Queens, N.Y.) won the 600-meter run with a 1:33.54. Tate and Robinson also teamed up with senior
Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) and
Malekah Holland to take gold in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:51.50.
That time was good enough to reach the ECAC qualifying mark.
The Lady Pirates also came in second in the 4x400-meter relay, and the time of 3:52.06 from Frank, freshman
Cassandra Jones (Norfolk, Va.), freshman
LeQuisha Parker (Silver Springs, Md.) and junior
Shantae Boney (District Heights, Md.) was also an ECAC qualifier.
Sophomore
Breana Norman (Virginia Beach, Va.) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 60-meter dash by running a 7.61 to come in second. She also ran an 8.69 in the 60-meter hurdles, coming in third and qualifying for the ECAC Championships.
Calder came in second in the 400-meter dash with a 58.76 and fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.67 meters. Sophomore
Nichelle Harris (Rahway, N.J.) ran a 5:16.82 to finish fifth in the mile run, while sophomore
Teiara Denmark (Virginia Beach, Va.) was fifth in the long jump at 5.58 meters.
Meanwhile, the Pirates competed in the Captain's Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport at the Freeman Center on Friday and Saturday, taking home a pair of event titles.
Freshman
Edose Ibadin (Glendale, Md.) ran a 1:55.93 to win the 800-meter run, while sophomore
Larry Ramirez (Pleasantville, N.J.), sophomore
Je'Von Hutchison (Boynton, Fla.), junior
Jaleel Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior
Xavier Fraction (Sewell, N.J.) took gold in the distance medley relay with a combined time of 10:14.76.
Hutchison also came in second in the 600-meter run with a 1:21.14, while freshman
Tyler Jackson (Woodbridge, Va.) ran a 27.46 to come in second in the 200-meter hurdles. Senior
Devan Clark (Lorton, Va.) finished second in the weight throw at 14.19 meters.
Rogers ran a 1:22.35 to come in third in the 600-meter run.
Freshman
Javan Gray (Springfield, Ore.) tossed the shot put 14.20 meters to come in fourth.
Several Lady Pirates also competed in the pentathlon at the CNU Captain's Invitational on Friday' Calder won the event with 3,293 points, while senior
Ermesha Fair (Chesapeake, Va.) tallied 3,270 points to come in second.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday and Saturday, when they travel to State College, Pa. to compete in the Penn State National Invitational.
