HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University senior linebacker Lyndell Gibson and sophomore rightside Vendula Strakova were named HU Athletes of the Week on Monday due to their respective performances this past weekend.

Gibson (Virginia Beach, Va.) keyed the football team's first victory of the season on Saturday, tying for the team lead with eight tackles and picking off a pair of a passes as the Pirates defeated rival Norfolk State 28-14 in the Battle of the Bay.

Gibson also had four pass breakups on the afternoon.

Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) averaged 14.0 kills and 3.5 service aces in two matches this past weekend on the road for the volleyball team. In seven total sets at Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State, Strakova hit .308 with 28 total kills and just eight errors in 65 total attacks.

After recording 17 kills on Friday at UMES, she added 11 digs at Delaware State to go along with a team- and career-high five service aces.
