RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Hampton University men's tennis team, the Northern Division's No. 2 seed fell to Bethune-Cookman 4-0 in the MEAC Tournament contest at the Millbrook Tennis Center Friday.
The Lady Pirates, the Northern Division's No. 2 seed fell 4-2 to North Carolina Central, Friday at the Millbrook Tennis Center.
On the men's side, the Wildcats won at the number one, three and six singles positions to advance past the Pirates.
Alvin Fludd (Washington, D.C.) dropped his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-3 to Marc Misanovic.
Lakshmana Satchithananthan (Toronto, Ontario)lost 6-2, 6-0 to Santiago Lobelo, and
Andrew Williams (Macon, GA) fell 6-1, 6-2 to Kip Jackson.
Bethune captured the doubles point when Varon and Lobelo defeated
Isaiah Stewart (Riviera Beach, FL) and
Lakshmana Satchithananthan (Toronto, Ontario) 8-3 while Kibet and Garvito dropped
Kenneth Greene (Philadelphia, PA) and Williams 8-3.
On the women's side, the Lady Eagles won at the number one, two and four singles while the Lady Pirates captured the number five and six spot. Senior
Calisia Reid (Jamaica, West Indies) dropped her match 6-1, 6-1 against Oleysa Palko, Senior
Barenese Myers (Beverly Hills, Calif.) fell 6-3, 6-1 to Cameron Chatman in the No. 2 position. In the No.4 position
Danielle Butler (Hawthorne, Calif.) fell 7-5, 6-1 to Rebecca Wood.
Tabita Daolio (Centro Campinas, Brazil) captured a point defeating Julia Aguilar 6-0, 6-0 while
Melanie Scott (Gardena, CA) also put away her match 6-0, 6-0 over Lakisha McDougald.
North Carolina Centrals Chatman and Palko dropped Scott and Daolio 8-1, while Nekrasova and Wood defeated Myers and
Maria Ycaza (Guayaquil, Ecuador)to gain doubles point for Central.
South Carolina State won both the men's and women's championships on Sunday. The Lady Bulldogs earned their eighth consecutive MEAC crown and ninth overall with a 4-1 victory over Howard, while the Bulldogs topped the Florida A&M 4-3 to win their tenth MEAC crown.
The Pirates finished their season with an overall record of 6-9, while the Lady Pirates posted a 7-8 overall record this season.
