FOOTBALL FALLS ON THE ROAD TO BETHUNE-COOKMAN

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Hampton University football team fell on the road to No. 18 Bethune-Cookman on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium, as the Wildcats took a 42-12 win.

The Pirates fell to 4-7 on the season and 4-3 in MEAC play.

Bethune-Cookman found the endzone twice in the first quarter – Jackie Wilson threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Cary White with 6:45 left on the clock to put the Wildcats up 7-0, before Wilson ran in from five yards out to put B-CU up 14-0 with 3:14 left in the quarter.

Freshman kicker Anthony Prevost (Chesterfield, Va.) got the Pirates on the board with 3:49 left in the half with a 34-yard field goal.

Quentin Williams put the Wildcats up 22-3 with 2:23 left in the half with a 1-yard touchdown run, followed by the two-point conversion from Brodrick Waters.

Hampton scored first to open the second half, as Prevost kicked a 34-yard field goal to cut the gap to 22-6. But the Wildcats answered with 3:21 left in the third quarter when Michael Jones ran in from 30 yards out to put B-CU (9-2, 6-1 MEAC) up 28-6.

Williams scored again from five yards out with 14:54 left in the game to put B-CU a 35-6 lead, before Drexler Dixon put the Wildcats up 42-6 with 8:57 left on a 16-yard touchdown run.

The Pirates found the endzone with 5:26 left in the contest, when redshirt-freshman fullback Marcus Hampton (Williamstown, N.J.) scored from four yards out. Hampton cut the lead to 42-12 after the PAT failed.

Junior Jorrian Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 91 rushing yards for the Pirates on 14 carries, while Hampton had 62 yards on eight carries and a score. Freshman quarterback Bryan Bailey (Woodruff, S.C.) was 8-for-20 for 55 yards.

Senior Antwon Chisholm (Belle Glade, Fla.) had 44 of those yards receiving.

Senior defensive back Carvin Johnson (New Orleans, La.) led the Pirates defense with 16 tackles, while sophomore Keith McAfee (Charlotte, N.C.) had 15 tackles and sophomore Joshua Thorne (Oxon Hill, Md.) added another 11.

Senior Justin Blake (Piscataway, N.J.) had an interception return for 43 yards.

Bethune-Cookman had 557 yards of total offense, including 475 on the ground.

The Pirates will wrap up the regular season at Armstrong Stadium on Saturday, squaring off against rival Howard at 1 p.m. in the Battle of the Bay.
