WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hampton University softball team concluded a busy week with a shutout over rival Howard in the series finale on Sunday, coming away with a 10-0 win.
 
The Lady Pirates (14-18, 6-2 MEAC) have won nine of their last 11 games.
 
Hampton went on a scoring binge in the top of the third inning, pushing across seven runs. It got started when junior Taylor McCoy (Riverview, Fla.) doubled to bring in Margaret Wilkins (Tustin, Calif.) and sophomore Danielle Budden (Jackson, N.J.) to put the Lady Pirates up 2-0.
 
McCoy later scored on a single from senior Kerissa Burruel (Phoenix, Ariz.).
 
Burruel's single also loaded the bases, before junior Jessica Reiman (Massillon, Ohio) doubled to right center field, scoring Burruel as well as freshmen Jada Fields (Woodland Park, N.J.) and Allyson Babinsack (Hampton, Va.) to put Hampton up 6-0.
 
Reiman then scored on a passed ball to give the Lady Pirates a 7-0 lead.
 
Hampton scored three more runs in the seventh, starting with a double to center field from Budden that scored Reiman. The Lady Pirates then loaded the bases, before walks to freshman Lorena Alvaraz (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and McCoy gave Hampton a 10-0 lead.
 
Reiman, Budden, and McCoy each had two hits, while McCoy and Reiman each had three RBIs.
 
Babinsack scattered six hits in seven innings, striking out a season-high nine in picking up her 11th win of the season. She has won each of her last eight decisions.
