HAMPTON, VA. – The Hampton University volleyball team took on Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern division leader Howard University on Friday night and dropped a 29-27, 25-15, 25-17 decision to the Bison at Holland Hall on Pink Night.

The first set saw Howard jump out to a 9-5 lead which would equal the largest margin of the set.  Hampton worked back into the match and tied it at 11 on a service ace from Ravyn Richardson.  That ace was part of an 8-2 run by the Lady Pirates to take a 17-13 advantage off an attack error.  

Howard evened the match at 20 off a Hampton attack error as the teams proceeded to the the score five times over the next six points.   A Reeana Richardson kill tied the game at 26-all before Howard closed the set with three of the last four points for a 29-27 win.

In the next set, Howard opened quickly and pulled away.  They opened the second set 8-3 before winning 25-15.  In the third, they opened 10-5 before Hampton tied the set at 12 off a Reeana Richardson kill.  After an attack error from Howard (15-5, 5-0) brought the Lady Pirates to within a point at 16-15, Howard ran off nine of the last 11 points to win the match.

Reeana Richardson had 13 kills, while Micah Leavell added 11 to lead Hampton (3-13, 2-3).  Summer Humes added 10 digs, while Brianna Lilly had 30 assists for the Lady Pirates.

Hampton will now return to action next Friday, October 14 when they face Norfolk State at 6 pm at Holland Hall.
