SMYRNA, De. – The Hampton women's cross country team finished second on Saturday in the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships held on Saturday morning.
This marks the best finish since taking second in 2012 as Hampton scored 63 points to trail six-time champion Florida A&M who won the race with 46 points.
Hampton had three runners finish in the top 15 to earn All-MEAC honors topped by
Faith Keitany who was second in 17:38.6 over the 5k course at the Delaware State Outreach and Research Center. Janet Okeago was right behind Keitany in third in a time of 17:58.4, while
Pollyanna Velasco took 12
th in 19:06.2.
Rounding out the Hampton participants was Eusila Chepkemei in 19
th (19:28.3),
Asia Johnson in 27
th (20:25.0) and Alysha Evans in 42
nd (21:40.5) .
Hampton will participate in the NCAA regionals on Nov. 11 in Charlottesville, Va.
