LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Behind a 68% field goal performance in the second half lifted Rider on Friday night to a 94-80 win over Hampton in the finals of the Upper Division of the Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Arena. Â
Jermaine Marrow paced four in double figures for Hampton with 19 points and seven assists. Greg Heckstall scored 10 of his 18 in the second half,
Kalin Fisher had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while
Charles Wilson-Fisher had 12 points and seven rebounds.Â
After leading 42-41 at the half, Hampton saw the Broncs open the second half on a 10-0 run to lead 51-42 at the 17:03 mark. Hampton trimmed the deficit to 64-61 on the strength of a 6-0 spurt capped by a Marrow layup with 10:35 left. Rider scored 10 of the next 12 points to push the lead back to 11 on a Tyere Marshall layup with 6:45 left for a 74-63 advantage.
Marrow was recognized on the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the game.
Hampton now returns home for a pair of games next week starting on Monday night with a 7pm matchup against Saint Leo University in the HU Convocation Center.
