HAMPTON, Va. – An eight-game Hampton University Lady Pirate basketball winning streak was snapped on Wednesday night as the visiting Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks outscored Hampton 25-13 in the final period for a 68-65 win.
With the loss, Hampton drops to 13-8 overall and 7-1 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, while Maryland Eastern Shore is now 9-10 and 3-5 in MEAC action.
After giving up the first three points of the game, Hampton went on a 15-2 run over a 5:40 span to lead 15-5 on a

Mikayla Sayle free throw game the Lady Pirates an 18-7 lead with 1:24 left and they ended the first up 18-9.
The middle two periods were dead even as Hampton pushed the lead in the third to 50-29 on a 3-pointer from Monazjea Finney-Smith with 5:30 left, but the Hawks closed the quarter on a 14-2 run to get back to a nine-point deficit on a 3-pointer from Mariah McCoy with nine seconds left.
In the fourth, McCoy scored 11 of her team-high 18 points in the final 10 minutes to spark the Hawks comeback. A 3-pointer from Finney-Smith gave Hampton its final lead of the night with 75 seconds left up 65-64. McCoy was 3-of-4 from the line in the final 60 seconds to help ice the win.
Finney-Smith was the leading scorer for Hampton with 18 points, while DeJane' James had 14 and six assists, while
Georgianna Gilbeaux added 10 and five assists.
Hampton now will hit the road to Savannah, Ga. to face Savannah State on Saturday at 4 pm.
