STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Hampton University lacrosse team took on a pair of formidable foes on Friday in Staten Island, NY. Facing 30 degree weather and snow showers, the Pirates fell 10-3 to Wagner University.
Nick Anacona scored two of the first four goals for Wagner as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 6:23 left in the first period. Hampton got on the scoreboard on an unassisted goal by
Lemuel Randolph to trim the deficit to 4-1 with 4:26 remaining.
The Seahawks scored five of the six goals in the second as
John Tarver scored the lone goal for Hampton as his goal trimmed the score to 6-2 with 9:11 left in the half. Wagner scored three goals in a 2:22 span to close the half with a 9-2 advantage.
After a scoreless third, Tarver connected with
Kendall Sapp for the first goal of the fourth period to get Hampton to 9-3 at the 4:24 mark. The hosts put one last goal in with a minute left to seal the 10-3 decision.
Hampton is now off until March 25 when they travel to face Ohio Valley University.
