WASHINGTON, DC – The Hampton University men's tennis team started Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division action on Saturday with a 5-2 win at Howard.
In doubles, Hampton scored wins at the top two spots to clinch the team point.
Juan Araoz and
Matthew Foster-Estwick won at line #1 and the tandem of
Charles Hudson and
Fedor Shirin won at line #2 both by 6-2 counts.
In singles, Hampton won three of four matches that went to three-sets to help clinch the win. Araoz won at line #1 singles over Ismael Kaouache 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Hudson started singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win at line #4 for one of the two two-set matches.
The last two singles lines saw Hampton lose the first set but win the last two to clinch the match.
Luke Thompson won at line #6 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Sagar Ragu.
Peter Odegbami clinched the match for Hampton with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win at line #5 over Cole Gittens.
Hampton (3-3, 1-0) will now visit James Madison for a Tuesday match in Harrisonburg.
