FAIRFAX, Va. – The Hampton University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at George Mason on Wednesday at the GMU Softball Complex, losing the second game 4-3 after dropping the first game 4-0.
The Lady Pirates are now 10-18 on the season.
Hampton was held to just two hits in the first game of the doubleheader, and the Patriots scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. All four runs were unearned.
Brianna Anderson and
Allyson Babinsack each had a hit.
Babinsack also had four strikeouts in six innings of work.
George Mason jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning of the second game, thanks to an RBI triple and an RBI groundout, before Hampton responded in the top of the seventh inning with three runs.
Taylor Warrick doubled and
Cassidy Blackwell drew a walk to open the inning, before
Kial Watts singled home Warrick to get Hampton on the board.
Ashley Grassini followed later in the inning with a two-run double down the right field line that put the Lady Pirates up 3-2.
But the Patriots answered in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 3-3 on a fielder's choice before a sac fly from Jess Middleton drove in the winning run.
Warrick, Watts, Grassini and
MacKenzie Wise each had a hit in the second game, and Grassini had two RBIs.
Allie Hotetz struck out four batters in 6.2 innings of work.
