PRINCETON, NJ – The Hampton University men's track team put on a blistering performance on Sunday and tied for third in the IC4A Championships held at Princeton University.
After sitting out Saturday due to rain, the Pirates had two firsts, a second and a third on Sunday. The first place finishes came in the hurdle events as
Charles Graham took first in the 110 hurdles in 14.26.
Freshman
Jaelen Williams continued his solid rookie campaign winning the 400 hurdles in 51.84. Hampton took third in that race with
Stanley Davis in 52.65 and grabbed sixth as
Gabriel Johnson ran 53.50.
In the 400 dash,
Justin Beatty gave Hampton another team point coming in eighth in 48.74.
The relay teams, 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800, all gave Hampton good team points on Sunday. The 4x100 group of Brenan Garrett,
Jerrick Powell,
Trey Clark and
Joshua Hagins was sixth in 41.86. Hampton took second in the 4x400 as Garrett, Powell, Beatty and Williams ran 3:12.02. The 4x800 pairing of
Stanley Davis,
Tayvon Burris, Johnson and
Geoffrey McCullough ran 7:37.56 to take fifth.
The women's track team finished in 19
th place with 17 points in the ECAC Championships held at Princeton as well.
Jaelen Leonard placed eighth on Sunday in the long jump at 18-5.75.
Hampton will now send runners to the NCAA East Regional on May 24-27 in Lexington, Kentucky.
