HAMPTON, Va. – Junior
Sydney Jackson headed in a loose ball with 5:36 left as Hampton scored its first win of 2017 defeating University of Mount Olive 2-1 at the HU Soccer Complex on a rainy Tuesday.
The Lady Pirates got on the board with 5:38 left in the first half as
Isobel Finnegan converted a penalty kick into the far left corner to put Hampton up 1-0.
Hampton maintained an edge through most of the contest and the Trojans mounted a flurry in the last seven minutes. Kaylee Larson found a loose ball and put it past
Haley Nelson to even the match at 1-1 with 6:52 left.
The hosts responded with pressure of their own and off a corner kick situation, Jackson gathered in the loose ball and headed it past the goalie for a 2-1 Hampton lead.
Hampton (1-7) outshot Mount Olive 22-10 and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Lady Pirates return to the HU Soccer Complex on Friday at 5 pm when they host Lincoln University (PA).
