VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Hampton volleyball team finished a sweep of the inaugural Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North-South Challenge on Saturday after taking a pair of matches at Tidewater Volleyball Center.
Hampton (5-11) defeated North Carolina A&T 25-27, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 and defeated Savannah State 25-16, 25-21, 25-16.
Reeana Richardson was named the MVP of the North-South Challenge as she recorded 30 kills in two matches and had a blistering attack percentage of .556 in the straight-set win over Savannah State.
Joining her on the All-Tournament team was
Lena Washington who had 19 kills and nine digs in the Saturday wins.
"So many people stepped up this weekend and played extremely well for us," said Hampton Head Coach
Brandon Duvall. "Reeana and
Lena Washington deserved All-Tournament recognition for their weekend efforts."

After a wild first set that saw 10 ties and four lead changes, Hampton faltered down the stretch as the Aggies won 27-25. That appeared to have snapped Hampton out of its funk as they ripped off the next three sets 25-20, 25-19, 25-19.
Richardson had 12 kills and four digs, while
Kyndall Nicholas added 11 kills and Washington had 10 and seven digs. Lena Reed-Petracek added 18 assists, two aces and seven digs, while
Maja Petronijevic had 16 digs and
Mallory Beard added 19 assists.
HAMPTON 3, SAVANNAH STATE 0
Hampton finished off its run to the inaugural North-South Challenge title with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-16 win over Savannah State.
Richardson capped off her MVP performance with an 18-kill effort as she blistered the ball with a .556 attack percentage for the match. Washington had nine kills, while Reed-Petracek had 16 assists, Beard chipped in with 15 and Petronijevic had 14 digs.
Hampton returns to Holland Hall on Friday, Sept. 29 to face Morgan State to start MEAC Northern Division action at 6 pm.
