BOBCATS TOPPLE PIRATES 59-0 IN SEASON OPENER

ATHENS, Oh. – Nathan Rourke scored three touchdowns rushing as Ohio University defeated Hampton University 59-0 at Peden Stadium on a rainy Saturday night.

Each team was held on their first series before Ohio took advantage of a 12-yard punt and gained possession on the Hampton 31.  After a pass interference call moved the ball to the 16, Quinton Maxwell found Papi White for a 16-yard scoring pass and an early 7-0 Ohio lead with 9:23 left in the first quarter.

After each team failed to sustain any momentum on a dreary, rainy night, Robert Scott IV picked off a pass in the end zone to snuff out another Ohio drive.   On the ensuing drive, Delmon Williams hit Wesley Wolfolk on a 30-yard pass to midfield for the first time Hampton hit midfield.

Another completion to Wolfolk got the Pirates to the Bobcats 31 to close out the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Ohio went on a 15-play, 82-yard drive for the Bobcats saw Maxwell take the final eight yards for a touchdown run.  The extra-point attempt failed as Hampton trailed 13-0 with 6:51 left in the half.

Following another short punt by the Pirates, Ohio took over on the 34 of Hampton before a one-yard run by Julian Ross with 2:26 left pushed the lead to 20-0.
Ohio started the third quarter with a short field after holding Hampton inside its 10.  Following a pass interference penalty, the Bobcats scored quickly as Dorian Brown finished with a 10-yard run and a 27-0 lead with 12:26 left in the third.  A safety as a punt snap sailed over Adam Brown's head into the end zone pushed the lead to 29-0 with 12:03 left in the quarter.

Ohio followed the safety with a Julian Ross two-yard run to finish a 60-yard, eight-play drive to lead 36-0 with 7:53 left.  After a Hampton fumble on its 13, Rourke scampered around the left end untouched for a 43-0 lead with 6:46 remaining in the third.  The lead grew to 46-0 on a 38-yard field goal from Louie Zervos with 3:06 remaining.

Rourke scored his third touchdown with 12:43 left in the game on a 21-yard run as the extra-point failed for a 52-0 advantage.  Dylan Wears closed out the scoring with a nine-yard run with 6:26 left for a 59-0 margin.

Chase Powell ran for a team high 40 yards on four carries to lead Hampton.  Wesley Wolfolk caught three passes for 38 yards to lead the receivers.  Kemaree Alcorn had 10 tackles, while Raheim Huskey and Devonte Spruill had nine apiece.

Hampton opens its home schedule on Friday night hosting Delaware State for a Whiteout Night and College Night at Armstrong Stadium at 7 pm.
