The Short Story: Hampton nearly pulled up a win in the second set, but ultimately fell in straight sets to Radford University on Saturday afternoon. The contest was played at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Va.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Radford outhit Hampton .288-.075 on the afternoon. The Highlanders also held a sizeable margin in blocks, 14-2.
- Radford was led by Mallory McKnight (11 kills, .304 hitting percentage) and Lilijana Henderson (10 kills, .529 hitting percentage).
- Megann Delgado led all players with 17 kills, tallying six digs and two aces.
- Lena Reed-Petracek finished with 18 aces, four digs, and four aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hampton trailed one of the top teams in the conference 4-3 in the first set before a 12-1 Radford scoring spurt put the visitors up 16-4. The Highlanders led by at least seven the remainder of the set.
- Hampton jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set behind three service aces, two coming from Lena Reed-Petracek. The Lady Pirates continued to pull away, opening up a 17-7 lead. The Highlanders responded to cut it to just five points, 21-16. Hampton temporarily stopped the run, but the Highlanders were near perfect the remainder of the set to go up 2-0 for the match.
- HU continued to battle in the third set, drawing even at seven points each early in the frame. Radford rallied on a 5-2 run for a narrow 12-9 margin following a Lady Pirate timeout. The Highlanders did not slow down, taking advantage of a strong net game and several Lady Pirate errors to jump out to a 11-2 run and 23-11 edge, effectively finishing the match.
