HOW IT HAPPENED: In a game that saw 13 ties and 11 lead changes, a layup by Hannah Friend and two Tiana Johnson free throws in the last two minutes enabled Sacramento State to defeat Hampton 65-61 in the last day of the Lobo Invitational on Thursday.
Neither team held more than a five-point advantage throughout the game and Hampton took its last lead on a 3-pointer by Laren Vanarsdale with 3:13 left to lead 61-59. A Julynne da Silva jumper with 2:42 left tied the game for the final time at 61-all.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Senior Kaylah Lupoe had 16 points, seven boards, six blocked shots and four steals to top three in double figures for Hampton.
- Matching her 16 points was Laren VanArsdale who added four boards, three assists and two steals before fouling out in the last minute.
- Ashley Bates had 13 points, five boards and four steals to join the double figures club.
- Friend was the leading scorer for Sacramento State with 25 points and seven boards.
