IN BRIEF: Nathan Knight hit 5-of-7 from the foul line in the last 98 seconds as William & Mary held off a Hampton comeback for a 76-71 decision on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- William & Mary scored the first eight points and jumped out to a 16-7 lead on a Justin Pierce layup at the 14-minute mark.
- The lead grew to 23-13 with 10:27 left in a Matt Milon 3-pointer.  Hampton tied the game at 34-all on a pair of Lysander Bracey free throws with 62 seconds left.  Knight had a pair of layups, including one to just beat the halftime buzzer as the Tribe held a 38-34 lead at intermission.
- Hampton opened the second half on a 14-2 run as a Kalin Fisher layup with 14:20 left put Hampton up 48-40. Another Fisher layup at the 15:06 mark gave Hampton its largest lead of the game at 52-43.
- The Tribe responded to tie the game at 61 on a Paul Rowley layup with 6:36 remaining. Both teams traded off leads over the next five minutes as a pair of Greg Heckstall free throws tied the game at 69 with 1:49 left.
- Knight converted a three-point play, and followed with his free throw run to ice the game for William & Mary.
BEHIND THE BOXSCORE
- Jermaine Marrow was the leading scorer in the game as he finished with 31 points for Hampton, including 20 in the second half. He added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Bracey came off the bench with 11 points in 13 minutes, while Heckstall added 10 with eight boards and four assists.
- The Tribe was paced by Knight with 24 points and 12 rebounds to go with five assists. Justin Pierce had 17 and 12 boards with five assists. LJ Owens came off the bench with 12 points, while Paul Rowley added 11 and Milon chipped in with 10.
