LADY PIRATES CAGE BEARS IN QUARTERFINALS
NORFOLK, Va. – Senior Mikayla Sayle scored 16 points with seven rebounds as third-seeded Hampton eliminated sixth-seeded Morgan State 66-57 in the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference quarterfinals at the Norfolk Scope on Thursday.
Hampton (17-13) advances to face second-seeded Bethune-Cookman in a 2pm semifinal on Friday. This is a rematch of the 2017 MEAC Tournament final that Hampton won 52-49.
The Lady Pirates came out of the gate blistering with a 21-5 run to take a 24-9 lead on a Sayle layup with 43 seconds left. That was the largest lead of the day for Hampton.
Morgan State opened the second period on a 13-3 run as a 3-point play by Braennan Farrar with 3:56 left brought them to 29-24. Â Hampton pushed the lead back to 10 points on a Jephany Brown jumper with 2:12 left.
The second half saw each team make runs as Hampton regained a 10-point lead on a pair of Ashley Bates free throws with 5:14 left for a 44-34 lead. Morgan trimmed the lead to 53-51 with 4:05 left in the game as Farrar hit a free throw.
Hampton responded with a 3-point play by Bates, a Sayle layup from a Bates feed and a Sayle layup off a pass by Allina Starr to take the lead back to 60-51 with 1:17 left.
Joining Sayle in double figures was Bates with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Monnazjea Finney-Smith had 13 points and seven rebounds.  Hampton finished the game hitting 22-of-51 from the floor (43.1%) and 17-of-26 from the foul line (65.4%).Â
Farrar topped Morgan State (16-15) with 14 points and six rebounds, while Tykyrah Williams and Kayla Horn added 10 apiece.

- The win Thursday was the 20th MEAC Tournament win for Hampton head coach David Six. He's now 20-2 in MEAC Tournament action.

- The EIGHTÂ steals for Hampton matched a season low
- Sayle is averaging now 11 points and six rebounds in her last six games, coming off a regular season of averaging 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds.
