HAMPTON, Va. – Playing in its final regular-season Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup, the Lady Pirates tennis team blanked Maryland Eastern Shore 7-0 on Thursday morning.
The Lady Pirates clinched the top-seed out of the MEAC Northern Division for the 2018 MEAC Tennis Championships starting on April 26 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center at Old Dominion University. This is the second year in a row that Hampton earned the top-seed from the north after making the finals last year losing to South Carolina State.
Hampton (9-7, 6-0) won the two contested doubles matches as UMES didn't field a third doubles tandem.Â
Mariam Mitaishvili and
Yulia Kapitanova won 6-0 at line one and the tandem of
Haley Mullins and Ana Romanova won 6-0 at line two.
In singles, Hampton won four of the five singles matches 6-0, 6-0 as Kapitanova,
Cherise Slocombe, Mullins and
Julia d'Auvergne all won by shutout.Â
