IN BRIEF:Eli Dunne threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns as nationally ranked Northern Iowa took a 44-0 win over Hampton in front of over 9,000 at the UNI-Dome on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northern Iowa scored on its first possession going 79 yards in nine plays topped by a 12-yard scoring pass from Eli Dunne to Elias Nissen for a 7-0 lead with 11:59 left.
Their defense set up a second score by the Panthers after an interception gave them possession at the 29-yardline. Â Hampton's defense forced a 33-yard Austin Errthum field goal for a 10-0 UNI lead at the 7:10 mark.
In the second quarter, Hampton's defense forced another field goal by Errthum, this time from 34-yards as the hosts went up 13-0 with 12:22 left in the half.
UNI deflected a punt that took a Hampton roll stopping on the Pirate 49. Â Trevor Allen followed with a 49-yard run through the middle for a 20-0 lead with 2:46 left in the half.
The hosts took their opening possession of the second half and scored on a Marcus Weymiller nine-yard run to lead 27-0.with 10:44 left in the third.
Another Pirate turnover gave UNI possession on Hampton's 19 as Dune connected with Nick Fossey on a 19-yard scoring pass to lead 34-0 just 48 seconds later.
Dunne threw his third scoring pass of the game hitting Deion McShane on a 12-yard pass to lead 41-0 with 4:10 left.
Errthum connected on his third field goal of the game, this time from 43-yards out to lead 44-0 at the 12:57 mark of the fourth.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
Shai McKenzie saw his first action this year and ran for 57 yards as Hampton ran for 143 yards on 33 carries.
The 4.3 yards per carry was most in a game allowed by UNI this year.
Chaka Diarrassouba had a career high 12 tackles to lead Hampton and Davonte Spruill added a career best 11.
