CLINTON, S.C. – The Hampton volleyball team dropped its opening match of a Big South weekend in South Carolina losing to Presbyterian 25-17, 25-12, 26-24 on Friday night.
Clara Smith had five kills to lead Hampton as
Alyah Barkley,
Sydney Sumner,
Gabby Calloway and
Isis Black added three kills apiece.
Hampton jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the first set after an ace by Sumner, but the hosts then ripped off a 13-1 run to lead 18-10 after consecutive kills by Erin Cooke as they won 25-17.  In the third, Hampton held a 20-17 lead after a kill by Barkley, before the Blue Hose scored the next five points to lead 22-20. The Lady Pirates tied it at 24 on a service ace by
Lena Reed-Petracek before the hosts scored the last two points to win the match.
Hampton travels to Charleston Southern for a 2pm start in Charleston, S.C. on Saturday.
