HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton volleyball team dropped a four set match to Winthrop University on Friday night winning the opening set 25-17 before the Eagles won the last three 26-24, 25-16, 25-15.
In the first set that saw 10 ties and four changes, a block by
Genevieve Reynolds, and
Sasha Saric put the Lady Pirates up 22-16. Hampton scored the next three of four points as a kill from
Sydney Sumner gave Hampton the opening set 25-17.
The second set saw 15 ties and eight lead changes as a kill from
Gabby Calloway push the Lady Pirates ahead 22-20. Each team would trade a point when a service ace by Sumner made it 23-23. After a Hampton timeout, Morgan Bossler and Calloway each had kills tying the set 24-24. Winthrop would respond with two consecutive kills to end the set.
Sumner topped Hampton with 12 kills and 21 digs, whileÂ
Calloway had 15 kills and seven digs. Â
Jessica Pugh added 14 digs, whileÂ
Lena Reed-Petracek had 21 assists and 10 digs.
Hampton will be back on the court Saturday Nov. 2 at 2 pm, as they host Gardner-Webb University at Boo Williams Sports Complex.
