LADY PIRATES SET SCHOOL RECORD ON WAY TO HOME WIN

HAMPTON, Va. -- Behind a school record 21-of-21 performance from the foul line, Hampton rallied from a 12-point second quarter deficit to defeat Presbyterian 79-62 on Tuesday night in a Big South Conference matchup.

The previous school record, with a minimum 10 attempts, was a 10-for-10 performance against Louisville on Nov. 26, 2004 in a tournament in the Virgin Islands.  The 21-for-21 performance was two off the Big South Conference record for highest free throw percentage in a game.

Presbyterian opened the game scored 13 of the first 15 points to lead 13-2 on a pair of Kacie Hall free throws with 2:29 left in the quarter.  A 3-pointer by Riley Hemm gave the Blue Hose their largest lead at 20-8 with 9:21 left in the second quarter.

Hampton regained its composure and went on a 26-9 run to close the half.  The Lady Pirates got their first lead at 27-26 on a layup by Dior Diom with 2:40 left, while a steal and layup by Ashley Bates gave them a 34-29 lead at halftime.

That run carried into the start of the third as Hampton scored the first eight points as a Bates layup finished off an evventual 34-9 burst to lead 42-29 with 8:01 left.  A Hall 3-ball brought Presbyterian to 46-37 with 4:27 in the third, but Hampton scored the next seven to take a 53-37 lead on a Laren VanArsdale layup with 2:52 left in the quarter.

VanArsdale was the leading scorer with 23 points to go with four assists to lead three in double figures for Hampton (12-9. 8-2).  Bates had 16 points, four assists and four steals, while Dioum added a season high 15 points, four rebounds and two assists.  Mahaley Holit scored nine points with nine assists and seve nrebounds, while Kaylah Lupoe had eight points, 10 boards and three blocks.

Hall topped Presbyterian with 27 points while Salina Virola added 12.  The Blue Hose were 11-of-23 from 3-point range (47.8%) and 20-of-54 from the floor (37%).

The Lady Pirates are now off until next Tuesday when they host Campbell at 7 pm.
