EARLY START LIFTS LACROSSE OVER BATTLERS

HAMPTON, VA— Hampton University Lacrosse team defeated the Golden Battlers of Alderson Broaddus University 9-5 on Saturday afternoon at Armstrong Stadium.
 
Leading the scoring for the Pirates were Jordan Brown with three, Kendall Sapp with two and Pierce Johnson, Elliott Johnson III, Jonathan Napier and Melvin Scott III added a goal.
 
Hampton jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Golden Battlers, as Brown scored an unassisted goal for the Pirates with 4:52 left in the first period. Christian Clarkin of Alderson Broaddus put his team on the board late in the first period to make it 4-1. With 57 seconds left in the period, Brown scored his second goal of the day to close out the first period of play to give the Pirates a 5-1 lead.
 
The Pirates would score back to back goals to start the second period. Sapp scored his second goal of the day off an assist from Pierce Johnson at 14:19 of the second period. While Elliott Johnson added a chip shot from Brown to extend the Pirates lead to 7-1 at the 12:57 mark.
 
Alderson Broaddus answer back with a quick goal from Matthew Amato, but Hampton followed back with a score of their own. With the assist from Derian Williams-Sturdivant, Johnathan Napier drills one in at the 4:13 mark in the second period pushing the lead to 8-2.
 
The Golden Battlers would score the next two goals to bring the score 8-4 at the 4:47 mark in the third period. Pierce Johnson would seal the deal with a quick goal 10 seconds later from an assist by Ian Groom to seal the win the Hampton.
 
Hampton (3-2) returns to action on Wednesday facing Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA at 7 pm.
