MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Hampton University track teams opened their outdoor seasons this past weekend participating in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
For the women, the 4x100 relay team ofÂ
Autumn Smith,
Asha Copeland,
Isis Brooks, and
Sashana Hinds takes first with a time of 46:55. With the same four running, Hampton took second in the 4x100 with a 1:40.31, and second in the 4x400 with a 3:50.42.
Individually, Smith would take first in the 110 hurdles with a 13.96. Kylie McMillian placed second in the 100 meters with a 12.37. In the 200 meters,
Isis Brooks took second with a 24.63 while
Asha Copeland finished third with a 25.24.
Corneisha Mitchell would take second in the hammer with a toss of 52.98 meters (173 feet and 10 inches).
The men had two relay teams take second and one more take fourth to win its division. In the 4x200 relay,
Derrick Price,
Moffat Wanjiru,
Jerrick Powell, and
Jaelen Williams ran 1:27.06 to finished second. With the same four running, Hampton took second in the 4x400 with a 3:14.79. The 4x100 relay group of Price, Wanjiru, Powell and
Dylan Beard ran 42.43 to take fourth place.
Price, with a time of 21.91 finished second in the 200 meters. Powell, ran a 48.92 for an eight place finish in the 400 meters. Beard, would take sixth in 110 hurdles with a time of 14.57. In long jump,
Jordan Walker took first place with a leap of 6.92 meters (22 feet and 8 ½ inches).

Nicholas Edwards placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.37 meters (47 feet) and walks away with a third placed finished with a discus throw of 45.81 meters (150 feet 3 inches).
Hampton will participate in the VCU Relays this weekend in Richmond.
