HAMPTON, Va. – The Lady Pirates took care of business as they wrapped up the Battle of the Bay defeating Norfolk State 25-18, 25-13, 25-10 in order to get the second win of the season on the road and back to back wins against the Spartans.
The first set was neck and neck as both teams would trade scores until the 15-15 mark. Hampton would then go up by three to get up to 15-18 and then never let the Spartans back in the game to finish with an attack by
Gabby Calloway which led to an error by Norfolk State to finish the set.
After a very competitive first set the Lady Pirates would apply pressure to secure the second set by starting with at 10-5 run. Norfolk State would only score 13 points as Hampton would win the set 25-13 behind a kill by Calloway.
For the third and final set Hampton would make sure to close out strong starting off with a 15-7 run.
Jessica Pugh would close out the set with two serving aces to end the game.
Sasha Saric led the Pirates with 13 kills, while Sydney Summer had eight digs and two serving aces and 11 total attacks.
Gabby Calloway also had two serving aces and finished with seven digs. Brook Irving finished with 18 assists. Â Â Â Â
The Lady Pirates will hit the road to take on Saint Peter's University Friday, September 6 at the Bucknell Bison Invitational.
