CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Hampton University track and field teams opened their 2020 indoor slates at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge and came out with several top performances.
Isis Brooks made the finals of the 60 meter dash taking seventh in 7.82 and followed that with a first-place in the 200 meters in 25.08.
The 400 meters saw Hampton go 1-2 as
Sashana Hinds won it in 58.18 and
Jaelan Leonard was second in 58.63. Leonard also added a third in the long jump with a leap of 18-11.75.
Shakeria Johnson took third in the 800 meters in 2:24.07, while
Autumn Smith won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.60. The 4x400 relay group of Smith, Leonard,
Asha Copeland and Hinds took second in 3:54.78.
In the triple jump, Hampton went 1-3-4 as
Adetoun Oluwole was first (39-4.5),
Mallory Pitchford was third (38-9) and
Dieusi Armand was fourth (37-9.5).Â
Kiyanna Thomas was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 45-3.5.
On the men's side,
Joshua Hagins lead a 1-3-4-5 in the 200 meters winning in 22.68, with
Otis Slayton in third (22.77) and
Dylan Beard in fourth in 22.91.Â
Jaelen Williams took second in the 400 In 49.68, while
Josiah Hill was third (50.20) and
Moffat Wanjiru was fourth in 50.51.
Dylan Beard won the 60 meter hurdles in 7.99, while Williams took sixth in 8.45 and
Noah Langford was eighth in 8.58. The 4x400 relay team of Brenan Garrett, Hill, Williams and Wanjiru won the event in 3:18.98 and a second group of Hagins,
Noah Langford,
Khalil Gary and
Jeremiah Hill was fourth in 3:23.33Â Â The long jump saw
Otis Slayton take second with a leap of 23-8.
