NORFOLK, Va. – Homestanding Norfolk State closed the game on a 13-3 run over the last 5:42 to score a 76-64 win over Hampton in the Battle of the Bay on Monday night at Joe Echols Hall.
In a game that saw nine ties and 10 lead changes, Hampton took its largest lead on the heels of an 8-2 spurt with a free throw by 
Davion Warren putting the Pirates up 21-15 with 8:24 left in the half. 
Warren hit a 3-pointer with 1:57 left to keep Hampton ahead 35-31, but the Spartans closed the half with seven of the last nine points.  A bucket by 
Edward Oliver-Hampton at the buzzer brought Hampton to within 38-37 at intermission.
Hampton held a lead throughout the first eight minutes of the second half before a pair of Deuce Dean free throws evened the game at 56 with 10:19 left.  A 
Chris Shelton 3-pointer with 5:42 left pulled the Pirates to 63-61, but the hosts finished the game on a 13-3 run.  Oliver-Hampton dunked the last points for Hampton with 40 seconds left for a 73-64 deficit.
That dunk by Oliver-Hampton gave him a new career high of 21 points and he hauled in 11 rebounds to lead Hampton (1-1).  Shelton added 16 points and Warren scored 10 for the Pirates.  Dean dished out a career-high 10 assists to go along with six rebounds.
The Pirates are next in action on Sunday afternoon at 1pm in Lexington, Va. as they'll take on VMI in the Keydet Classic.  This will be the first-ever meeting with VMI.
