HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University softball team finished its Hampton Invite on Sunday splitting a pair of games. They defeated Wagner 6-1 and lost in eight innings to Delaware 8-2.
In the opener,
Skylar Chavez put the Lady Pirates on the board with a leadoff home run for an early 1-0 lead.Â
Wagner tied it with a run in the top of the second, but Hampton put up four in its half of the inning. After a walk to
Brianna Anderson,
Lexi Lomax smacked a two-run home run to left field.Â
Emily Kepple doubled and pinch-runner
Samyah Richardson moved to third on a single by
Mo'ne Davis. Chavez scored Richardson on a sacrifice fly, while Davis scored on a groundout by
Jackie Gonzalez to lead 5-1.
Hampton (15-4) put up another run in the fourth as Lomax doubled to left and went to third on a foul out before Davis scored her on a sacrifice fly.
In game two, Hampton tied the game with two runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Lomax. Delaware erupted in the eighth with six runs to take the win.
Hampton now hits into conference schedule visiting Gardner-Webb next weekend.
