Clara Smith had eight kills, while 
Gabby Calloway had five and 11 digs as Hampton dropped a Big South Conference volleyball match at Gardner-Webb 25-23, 25-12, 25-18 on Friday night.
After trailing 9-6 early in set one, Hampton went on a 9-1 run to lead 15-10 after a Brooke Irvin ace.  
Isis Black added a kill to keep a five-point Hampton advantage at 17-12.  The Lady Pirates were up 21-19 before a 6-2 spurt by the hosts gave them the opening set.
Gardner-Webb used a 13-0 run in the second set to take that, while in the third a 
Kalyn Pierre service ace pulled Hampton to 17-14 before Gardner-Webb closed out on an 8-4 run.
Irvin added 13 assists and 10 digs for Hampton, while 
Jessica Pugh had a team high 12 digs.  Hampton will visit Winthrop on Saturday afternoon.
