NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
Gabby Calloway and
Clara Smith had 13 kills apiece as Hampton volleyball fell in four sets to UNC Asheville, 22-25, 13-25, 25-22, 22-25 on Saturday afternoon.
In a first set that saw 10 ties and six lead changes, Hampton trailed 16-12 before going on an 8-3 spurt to lead 20-19 after an attack error. UNC Asheville closed out the set with a 6-2 run to win 25-22.
After taking the second set 25-13, UNC Asheville saw Hampton use an 8-2 run to take a 14-8 lead following an
Isis Black kill. The lead for Hampton remained at six at 24-18 after a Calloway kill, but UNC Asheville made a run trimming the lead to 24-22 before a
Nevena Santrac kill gave Hampton a 25-22 third set.
Madison Clark and
Barbora Tichackova added six kills each, while Santrac had five.
Jessica Pugh had 16 digs, while
Leanna Caldwell added 10 and the tandem of Calloway and Santrac chipped in seven each.
Hampton returns to action on Friday night at North Carolina A&T.
